We are all familiar with the names Anadi, Nidhana, Sunruta, Veda, Vareli and Vani. The number of people studying the Samhita Roopaveda and understanding the meaning of Vedas is very less. Sometimes we get to hear the eight defects in nature mentioned in the original chapter of Vedas like - matted hair, garland of flowers, and exact estimate, flag, discipline, chariot and wealth. The surprising fact is that the teaching and studying of the sacred Vedas has become very less. It is every human beings duty to engage himself in the teaching and learning of the Supreme God, acquiring knowledge of him, to believe in God, to understand him, to listen about him and to make other people listen to it.

The great Lecturer and Speaker of Vedas, Kumaril Bhatt says that if it is not possible to learn all the 4 Vedas then one must try to learn one hymn by heart and understand the meaning of it.

Anandrai Bharavi was a poet who was in love with the Vedas. He says "we call it a moonlit night, the night transforms in to a day with its grandeur. The grandeur and wealth of knowledge dawns upon us only once in our lifetime.

Hey brother, if you do not get one way from this vast ocean of happiness then I would say that you will get a dark night even if thousands of suns shine there up in the sky.

Immediately after the child’s birth his father tells him in his ears "Vedohsi". He writes ‘Aum’ on the tongue of his child with a gold stick dipped in honey. The child gets the first lesson of religiousness from this age only. In Vedas, it is mentioned that the Lord God should be prayed through the Vedic hymns.

Hey Lord Brahma I salute you by means of the Vedas. Indra, Mitra, Varuna, Agni, Vayu and Hari are the names of the God. But he should be prayed by chanting his main name. In Gita, it is mentioned that ‘Aum’ is the superior name of God.

In Kanthopanishada, Acharya Yama tells Nichiket that, I will tell you the word which is sung by all Vedas, it’s the word with which the religious vow of Brahmacharya and other penances are completed. I’ll tell you that word. That word is ‘Aum’.

You must always chant the word ‘Aum’ and only that word. Leave all other words aside. ‘Aum’ is the word which will lead you to happiness.

In the Ganeshpurana, the word ‘Aum’ has been considered as Lord Ganesha and worshipped. The word Aum contain ten meanings. It diminishes all evils, it is the ruler who takes away all obstacles.

Actually when a human being of any religion i.e. Christian, Baudha, Jain, Muslim or a Hindu is fulfilled and satisfied with his meals he belches. While doing so he utters the word ‘Aum’. If such is the case why shoudl there be a hesitation while saying the word ‘Aum’.

The Baudhas and Jains also say this word in their five Navakaras. In the elaborated literature of English the adjectives used to describe God contain the word Omni which seems to be a derivative of Aum.

God is Omnipresent
God is Omniscient
God is Omnipotent

The Mohammedans also use the word ‘Amen’. Following are the twenty meanings of Aum. It is a preposition. It remains the same in all genders, in all cases and all numbers. Aum remains unaffected i.e. endings are not added to this word.
Meanings - protection, motion, skin, love, satisfaction, growth, meditation, reading, action, wish, light, progress, embracing, violence, donation, fate, knowledge, departure, achievement, etc. The person who chants Aum once remembers the twenty virtues of God. The other names which the deities of God chant do not have meanings which are more than the word Aum. So the word Aum is the best.

The Aum from the Vedas can make life sweet. The ancient language of the universe is the ‘language of God’. There are seven meanings mentioned in Sanskrit of the word "Veda". This word was formed from the main practical functions of seven great personalities. These are speeches on the smritis or the code of Hindu law delivered originally by tradition, view and morality.

Upanishadas are the soul of the Vedas and it is carrying the flag of Vedic prosperity. The status of the Vedas has been elevated in the Bhagvadgita. The mythological literature is grown by putting its base on Vedas. The Vedas are very rich of literature. One can interpret the tales, speeches, etc. only by the reference of other books on subjects like education, grammar, astrology, etc.

The Vedas contain divine knowledge which can be proved. We can examine this from the following examinations.
Nowadays, the Mohammedans, the Christians call their books that is the Quran and Bible as their holy books. The Hindu Aryans consider the Vedas as their holy book. Now what can be called as a true holy book. The divine knowledge can only be that which passes the following criteria.

First and the foremost criteria is that holy book should be in the native language only. If it is in any other language then it can be based. Secondly, that holy book should not contain description of any particular land or person. Thirdly, it should contain consistent education about the welfare and progress of mankind. Fourthly, the knowledge and information imparted in these writings should be applicable to all spheres of life. The fifth criteria is, it should not contain the description of superiority, beating, violence, etc.

In this way, logically argued we cannot say that Bible and Quran are holy books. The Bible is written in English and the Quran in Arabic. These languages are spoken in many countries. We also find descriptions of people in it, there is also exchange of thoughts between two people. They advocate grouping of the people of same caste, they propagate feelings like defeat, killing, etc.

The Vedas are the only scriptures which are written in a language which is not spoken anywhere else in the world. So it is called as the language of Gods. The Vedas do not contain the history or description of any particular country or person. The critics say that the names of rivers, places, people are used in Vedic scriptures only to make the narration interesting. The Gayatri Upanishad Kotha Mandak tells about the superiority of the Vedas.

We can make this world a better place only by a better understanding of the Vedas.
